Progression Of The Original OC Teacher Workshops: 2005 - 2009




The Operation Classroom team began their Makeni workshop projects in 2005 [mathematics and science] and 2006 [primary]. The goal was to have the Sierra Leone teachers conduct the workshops. Beginning in 2007 and 2008 this goal was achieved. Mary Bangura of the Makeni UMC Primary school is pictured above left at the Bo Teachers Workshop where she helped facilitate the workshop sponsored by FOSL and SfS. Organizers were Drs. Richard and Catherine Frazier and Cindy Nofziger. The Fraziers were original members of the Operation Classroom workshop projects in Makeni. Patrick Bindi [above right holding the paper] an original Makeni Mathematics Workshop attendee was a facilitator at the Bo Teachers Workshop attended by 73 Sierra Leone teachers.

Siegler, Figi, and Frazier and her husband Richard are all former Peace Corps Volunteers who served in Sierra Leone. Figi and the Fraziers were original members of the Makeni Operation Classroom Secondary and Primary workshops that lasted from 2005 to 2008.

Saffa Koroma [above right] who is the head of the UMC secondary education program in Sierra Leone observed at the Bo Teachers Workshop. UMC teachers were among the attendees and facilitators at the workshop.

Mr. Bailor Jalloh [below left] a Senior Teacher at the UMC Secondary School in Makeni was an organizer and facilitator at the Bo Teachers Workshop. Mr Jalloh was a participant and later an organizer in all the Makeni Workshops that began in 2005. Kalyca Thomas [below right] a teacher from New York City was a facilitator at the workshop
